Dermot O’Brien is the Chief Executive of The Adab Trust – a charity he set up in 2007 to create employment opportunities into blue chip companies for students from under-represented groups in London. Since 2007, Adab has supported over 11,000 young people as they prepare to enter/return to the world of work by collaborating with senior professionals from over 100 employer organisations.
Dermot has had a very varied career to date. He started by serving a traditional apprenticeship building racing engines to farming and then moving on to start a marine business. For the last fifteen years he has worked to promote corporate social responsibility with a particular interest in employability initiatives. He also has an interest in supporting the long term unemployed and this interest began when he ran London First’s employment programmes – achieving over 1000 hires and also setting up education action zones. His previous roles have included acting as a senior business advisor to the Government Office for London and participating in a ministerial task force on youth crime.
