As part of their ongoing commitment to the SHIFT campaign, which encourages employers to redefine their perception of talent, Macquarie Bank recently invited 41 London Works candidates to a Speed Networking Event at their offices in Moorgate.
Students from east London universities including University of Greenwich, London Metropolitan University, Queen Mary University of London and University of East London attended the event, which was facilitated by representatives from six divisions of Macquarie. The students, who had passed London Works’s comprehensive selection process, were offered a valuable chance to connect with professionals from diverse business areas including Macquarie Capital, Asset Management, Risk Management and Technology.
The students gained insights into the organisational culture of Macquarie and what it takes to progress within the organisation: Alejandro Retamal, second year Economics student at Queen Mary University, said “I discovered so much about Macquarie, made useful networks and just enjoyed the whole atmosphere and saw myself working for the firm”.
As the number of students able to attend the event was limited, London Works ensured that the selection process was a learning experience for everyone who applied. Students were given training in networking and presentation skills in an attempt to boost the confidence of all applicants. Nicolle Morris, second year Mathematics student at University of Greenwich, told us “I have learned a lot during the past couple of weeks and you have given me the confidence to try and make myself stand out as well as giving me an understanding of what I need to do to achieve this”.
Sally Gannon, Graduate Recruitment Executive at Macquarie, told London Works: “We thoroughly enjoyed meeting such engaging students from London Works at our offices and were delighted to be able to give them the chance to speak to representatives from our businesses to learn more about Macquarie and our culture and what they would be doing as potential Graduates and Interns within the various businesses we are recruiting in. We are confident that they now feel empowered to apply for our programmes and we look forward to receiving their applications.”
Following the event, Macquarie has invited the London Works candidates to submit applications for their Summer Internship programme. Thanks to the success of the Speed Networking Event, the London Works team are confident that our candidates will perform fantastically.
